These
rules were revised and posted 11/28/06
1) All Coaches, Players and parents must adhere to the Code of Conduct
2) Every player must have equal playing time.
The following rules apply:
The team roster shall have no more than 10 players; playing time should be 16 minutes per player
The clock will stop at 4 minutes to allow coaches to substitute the next
5 players.
The officials will stop
play as soon as possible after the clock is stopped at 4 minutes
Required playing time: minutes per player if roster at game time is less
than 10 players.
9 players = 17.5 minutes
8 players = 20 minutes
7 players = 22.5 minutes
If playing time rules are not followed.
The following penalties will be
enforced:
· The player who has been allowed to play more than allowed will be taken out of the game.
· The team that has not followed playing time rules will forfeit the game (If both teams break the rule, both teams will forfeit)
· The head coach will be suspended for one game, upon the second breaking of the rule the head coach will be suspended for the rest of the season and will not coach in the Tichigan Youth Basketball league again. Suspension will follow into next season.
3) The only exceptions to rule 1 will be because of an injury, illness or a discipline problem. (Such as, missing practices without a proper excuse, disrespecting the coach, etc.) Any of these exceptions must be reported to the scorers table prior to the game and the parent must be notified.
4) Separate basketball shoes must be worn during games, and changed into before game. No street shoes allowed
5) During the game the player must wear the uniform provided by league, including league issued shorts.
6) A player that is injured or bleeding must come out of the game and the bleeding must be controlled before the player re-enters the game.
7) Coaches must fill out the team roster on the scorer's sheet.
1) W.I.A.A. rules apply when applicable
2) A warm up period will be provided before games
3) Length of quarters will be 8 minutes
4) Time between quarters is 1 minute. Time between halves will be approximately 5 minutes
5) Each team will receive 5 time-outs per game – 2 one-minute full time-outs and 3 30-second time outs. In the event of overtime each team will receive one additional – 1 minute full time-out
6) The clock will stop for injuries, free throws, 4-minute substitution, and time-outs. The clock will also stop for referee calls the last 10 seconds of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters and the last 2 minutes of the game. (The exception for the last two minutes is if one team is ahead by 15 or more points.)
7) Each player may have up to 5 fouls per game, before being disqualified.
8) Players committing flagrant fouls shall be ejected from the game. The fouled player will receive 2 shots and the team of the fouled player will receive the ball.
9) Intentional foul – fouled player will receive 2 shots and the team of the fouled player will receive the ball at the spot nearest the foul
10) Any player or coach who receives 2 technical fouls will be removed from the game. Any team that receives 3 technical fouls will forfeit the game. Technical fouls can also be called on fans and relatives of a team. Technical fouls called on non-team members will be assessed to the coach.
11) The bonus system will be in effect when a team reaches the 7th team foul per half. Double bonus will go into effect on the 10th team foul per half. Bonus shot is 1-1 and double bonus is 2 shots.
12) Foul shots will be attempted per regulation basketball rules. Exception 3rd/4th grade will shoot from inside the circle in front of free throw line. NOTE: new W.I.A.A. rule for number of players on lane during free throw.
13) MAN to MAN defense is stressed in TYB, although teams will be allowed to play any defense.
14) Pressing:
a. 3rd/ 4th - permitted during the last 2 minutes of the game, If one team is up by 15 points or more that team cannot press.
b. 5th / 6th – allowed the last 2 minutes by both teams. If one team is up by 15 points or more that team cannot press.
c. 7th/8th - boys and girls – team can press the whole second half.
15) All games begin with a jump ball. Direction of basket is dictated by bench location. Game should start with teams on offense at the basket opposite of the bench the team occupies. Basket direction is changed at half time. Teams should warm-up at assigned baskets
16) If a regular season game ends in a tie and time permits, the game will be decided by a 2 minute overtime period. If a game ends in a tie after the 2-minute overtime, a shoot-out shall decide the game. During the shoot-out, each team will submit 3 players that were in play on the floor at the end of the game. The home team decides shooting order (whether to start or shoot second). Teams then alternate shooting free-throws using the basket they were last shooting at. All players from each team shoot. Most free throws made determine winner. In the event of a tie, the process is to be repeated. Tournament games will not use the shoot out process, but use 2 minutes overtime periods until there is a winner.
17) All decisions of the referee are final; there is no appeal process.
18) Only 2 coaches per team are allowed on the bench. Only one coach can stand during the game. If a coach watches the game from the bleacher area, they may not coach from that area.
19) Immediately after the game, line up players to shake hands and then clear off your bench area. Have your team remove any towels, water bottles, etc. Team meetings must be held off the bench and basketball court, preferably outside the gym.
20) Teams that are playing in the next game need to be in the stands or out of the gym under a coach’s control until completion of the previous game. Coaches are to be at the game location one half hour before the scheduled tip-off time to oversee your players before the game. Coaches, do not allow your players on the gym floor until the previous teams have shook hands and cleared their benches.
21) Teams that play the first session of games should arrive early and be prepared to set up gyms if needed
22) Teams that play in the last session of games should be prepared to stay late and help clean up the gyms if needed.
23) COACHES, ASK YOUR PARENTS FOR HELP WITH RULES 20, 21 and 22!
1) No team shall have more than one, 1 hour practice per week
2) Use only basketballs supplied by TYB. Kids do not need to bring basketballs to practice. If you are running a drill requiring more than the 2 basketballs balls supplied please keep in mind they are under the coaches’ control when in the facility you are practicing at.
3) Use the pull over jerseys when practicing when scrimmaging. NO SKINS OR SHIRTS. (For obvious reasons)
4) During practice please follow these rules:
A. Coaches, please arrive 10 minutes before practice to oversee your team before practice.
B. Coaches must stay at the school until all kids are picked up.
C. Place coats and shoes in designated areas.
D. Sitting on bleachers is not allowed and must stay closed.
E. Be considerate of other teams practicing.
F. NO OPEN GYM – only teams scheduled to practice can play.
G. Once finished with practice hold meetings outside the gym.
H. Parents, siblings, and other visitors are not allowed in the gym.
I. Players not allowed to bring balls from home.
J. Basketballs must stay in the gym.
